The Mary Black Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, established in 1968, disbanded shortly before its 55th anniversary, closing its campus gift shop following Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System’s decision. The auxiliary, affected by the hospital’s sale to Spartanburg Regional in 2018, decided to donate their remaining funds, totaling $245,000, to various local nonprofits, including Carol’s Hope. The gift shop had been a community and staff favorite, offering snacks and social interaction. The auxiliary’s contributions over the years extended to scholarships, hospital equipment, and support for various community organizations.
